Competition Trebuchet Abstract
A 7-foot-tall trebuchet engineered to maximize torque and projectile launch distance through optimized mechanical advantage and counterweight positioning. The design features CNC-machined swing-arm components for precise repeatability and a sturdy base structure capable of withstanding the forces of repeated launches. Achieved a record 224-foot launch distance.
Mechanical Design
The trebuchet design focused on maximizing the mechanical advantage of the lever arm while maintaining structural integrity. Fusion 360 was used to model the complete assembly and run structural simulations under launch loads. The counterweight-to-projectile mass ratio was optimized through iterative testing to achieve maximum launch distance.

CNC Fabrication
Critical components including the swing arm and axle supports were CNC-machined from hardwood to ensure precise dimensions and repeatability. The routing machine allowed for complex curved geometries that optimized weight distribution along the throwing arm. All wooden components were finished with protective coatings to prevent warping.

Testing and Optimization
Over 50 test launches were conducted with systematic variations in release angle, counterweight mass, and projectile position. Each launch was measured and recorded, with data analysis revealing optimal parameter combinations. Final adjustments based on testing data resulted in the record-breaking 224-foot launch that secured first place.
